Subject: problems with ethernet card

Hi all, I'm a Linux newbie so probably my question is obvious...I have a
ethernet card on my computer, which is not connected with any
other...when Linux starts up, it stills a lot of time trying, I think,
to correctly configure the card. On the screen you have the message:

bringing up interface eth0

how can I avoid this behavior?

Ok, so I had mail.pacbell.net as a gateway which it didnt like, so I simply
set it to be the mail server, and it seems they started talking to each
other. Now however, the destination ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) is refusing the mail
because the domain is dodgy. How would I set the domain name easily, and
will that fix it?

Thanks.

Subject: Re: sending mail from scripts SOLVED
Date: Wed, 1 Nov 2000 01:26:36 -0800

Ok, so I solved it by editing my hosts file so that 127.0.0.1 is now
firefly.species.org, which is not at hooked up by dns (but I do own the
species.org domain). This fooled sendmail into using firefly.species.org as
the orginator of the email, which in turn had my ISP (best.com) accept the
email. *phew*

Anything blatantly bad about this?
