If there's no linuxconf module, you'll need to configure it by editing
its configuration files. Normally, those are in /etc/postfix (I know
they're there on the Mandrake Postfix RPM I'm using on a Caldera
system). The most important file is called main.cf. It's very well
documented, so you shouldn't have trouble following it. I'm not sure
what the problem is if Postfix seems slow, though. Perhaps it's just
built that way. (Note that Postfix was designed to be fast, but in the
sense of messages delivered per unit time. This isn't the same as time
to deliver one message; Postfix could conceivably be fast on the former
but slow on the latter. I've never been bothered by Postfix's
performance on my system, but I don't usually watch how long it takes to
deliver either incoming or outgoing e-mail.)
Oh, actually, I just had a thought: If Postfix is slow on incoming mail,
it might be because of reverse DNS lookups and/or the use of RBL and
similar anti-spam measures. I don't know if there's a way to disable
reverse DNS lookups, but you can certainly enable or disable RBL-ish
stuff by making sure reject_maps_rbl does NOT appear in the
smtpd_client_restrictions line in main.cf.

Dear All,
My box have 3 nic installed , I would like to use this box as my firewall
with DMZ,
Those card was loaded up successfully during LILO. And I have assigned the
following IP for each interface as follow :
============================================================================
eth1 : 168.168.1.254 ----- For our Private LAN (Intel EtherExpress Pro100)
netmask: 255.255.0.0
network: 168.168.0.0
broadcast: 168.168.255.255
eth2 : 168.168.2.254 ----- For our DMZ (Intel EtherExpress Pro100)
netmask: 255.255.0.0
network: 168.168.0.0
broadcast: 168.168.255.255
eth2 : x.x.x.x --------------- Which is our public IP (3c905B-TPO)
Also, I have set up 2 PC for test using crossover Cat5.
PC1 (simulate as Private LAN client)
- connect to the "eth1"
- and the IP is 168.168.1.10
netmask: 255.255.0.0
network: 168.168.0.0
broadcast: 168.168.255.255
gateway : 168.168.1.254
PC2 (simulate as DMZ's server)
- connect to the "eth2"
- and the IP is 168.168.1.10
netmask: 255.255.0.0
network: 168.168.0.0
broadcast: 168.168.255.255
gateway : 168.168.2.254
============================================================================
After those setup, I started try to ping those test PC at the Firewall
box.
but just the PC2 have response.. The interrupts of those eth0 and eth1 are
keep
increasing.... so, will this is the routing problem or what other else ??
Does anyone experienced this wired things b4 ??
Thank

still fine.
ee?
It's seem that all accounts had been disable, right?! I was using shadow

In any terminal, type the command: xev
This will start a utility which records every input event from mouse and
keyboard. It's a little cryptic at first, but you should be able to
identify what the output code is when you press BKSP. Mine, for example,
is non-standard: keycode 22. Once you know what the keycode is, exit xev
by closing the mouse test window. Then type in your terminal:
xmodmap -e "keycode 22 = BackSpace"
Of course, be sure to replace my "22" with whatever keycode you get;
should be 2 or three digits. Also, the quotation marks may be unnecessary
on your system. If that helps, then we can talk about making that command
"permanent" with your login.

Look at your XF86Config file and make sure that there are no uncommented
lines that say "nodeadkeys" in the keyboard section. I accidently told
Xconfigurator that I didn't need support for dead keys last time I set up
a Linux system, it seemed to make sense. However, it turns out that the
backspace key is a "dead" key.

George-
When using over 64 MB of memory, linux sometimes needs a little help
recognizing the correct memory size. You could try adding:
append="mem=80M"
to the linux stanza of the /etc/lilo.conf file and re-running lilo. This
will tell the kernel how much memory there is. (See the lilo.conf manpage
for more details)
That 3x rollover of 32M on startup worries me, though. It sounds like the
BIOS is not correctly recognizing the memory, but that might not be the
case. If the above fix doesn't work, your memory may not be properly
installed. I don't know anything about your specific configuration, but I
do know that some boards want to either use SIMM or DIMM slots, not both.
Beyond that, I have no idea.

Hi,
I am a Linux newbie :-)
I have an eOne running Linux and seek modem info:
I run :
eOne from eMachines
PII 433 mHz
64MB RAM
6 GB hd
RH7
Gnome
Enlightenment wm
XFree86-4.0.01
No OS besides Linux
As far as I can tell from their web site and my "documentation"
this machine has a winmodem (I know, I know) of this flavor:
HSP MicroModem 56K PCI set up on COM 4 IRQ 3
That's all I can find.
Has anyone succeeded in getting this sucker hooked to the web via Linux?
If so, how?
I have a spare 28.8 ISA Motorola modem. ("hardware" modem)
Does anyone know if I crack open this weirdo case on the eOne
whether there is an open ISA slot I could use for this modem?
Suggestions, Urls, sympathy <g> appreciated :-)

he means kernel module. they are under /lib/modules/
so you do an insmod to see if the kenel can find the hardware.
if you don't know what i'm talking about, read sound HOWTO and kernel
HOWTO. most distros have all the modules pre-compiled, so you don't
really need to recompile the kernel. you simply need to know which
module to use.
you can use /etc/modules.conf or /etc/conf.modules or something like
that to get the module automatically inserted.

Is this a joke? This alpha from which I happen to post that has two
cards - 3c509 in use all the time (if it does not work then you will
not see that :-) and ne2k-pci used from time to time for "special
purposes". Most other Alphas I am dealing with usually have some
tulip version and there is quite a few of these. On various occasions
I had other network cards (via-rhine, old ewrk3, smc, ...). I do not
recall a situation when the card would simply not work. Some hardware/
software combinations were somewhat reluctant initially but this did
not happen too often.
: I tried 4 different kinds of cards (Smc ultra, ne200, davies, and
: intel) in my alphastation 200, and none of them worked.
Cannot comment on alphastation 200, as I never played with this
hardware, but I would be quite surprised to find out that is has
some extra special requirements.

I don't know as I'd even consider installing McAfee on a linux box. I
somehow can't trust an outfit whose winders code thinks a lilo install

Boggles the mind. :-(
I wouldn't worry about a viri near as much as I'd worry about keeping

Subject: Re: Sounddaemon + sound module (Newbie)
Date: Sat, 04 Nov 2000 03:33:29 GMT
see my other post.
ok. let me answer this question to more detail.
the sound is a part of the kernel, so it's not really an application.
So in order to get sound to work, you need a kernel that knows the
sound card you use. However, because the kernel can be compiled into
pieces, which is called kernel modules, and the kernel bring in the
piece when needed, your distribution probably have compiled the kernel
with a generic sound support, (soundcore) and all the sound
modules(specific modules that knows specific hardware).
all the kernel modules are typically under /lib/modules so you can
just peek in there and see what you can find. Also you will have to
check kernel's documentation for your sound card.
If that's the case, (SuSE does that. most distros do that.) All you
need to do is to tell the kernel which hardware related module it
should use with the soundcore, and other sound related, module. You
can do so by editing /etc/modules.conf or /etc/conf.modules (on my
distro they are the same file, symbolically linked together.)
if you open this file, you will find a ton of comments. if you choose
a very well supported sound card, then ALL you need to do is to
uncomment the part that is written for your sound card. but i guess
some distros like redhat have something like soundconf to do that for
you.

For this situation, you need netmask 255.255.255.0, not 255.255.0.0
And then you need to make sure that you have routes for each
subnet in your routing table:
168.168.1.0 ....... U ... eth1
168.168.2.0 ....... U ... eth2
x.x.x.x ....... U ... eth0
127.0.0.0 ....... U ... lo
0.0.0.0 {gw_add}U ... eth0
