Yup - I have RH7 on a duron 700 - no problem (in fact its brill - I
previously had an Intel 200MMX!) Before that I had RH6.2 running on the
duron, again no problem. The question is what problems are you getting?

Have just installed RH 7 onto my machine - clean install - workstation
Formerly had RH6.2 on it.
Installation went successfully, but when login prompt appears, I don't get
the graphical/gnome login prompt appearing a split second after the text
login - which was was happened with RH6.2.
Any tips? Kinda urgent - work to do etc.

If you get a text login prompt, just login with your usual id and
password and then try typing startx at the # prompt
Assuming all of you configurations were saved that should get you back
into Gnome.

This fixed the problem...darn that Plug N Play...it also seem to make my
Lan card get recognized correctly (previously I had to turn off and then
turn on the network card via the /etc/rc.d/network script.

Ok, I guess I was not descriptive enough. I am looking for a script that a
user can enter in his own username and password to create an account on a
linux box for email only.he is to have no other rights than to just have
email. I want to put a link to this script on my home page so the end user

I would sell this piece of silicon to someone rich enough to buy one, and I would
spend those bucks on a powerful K7 @ 800 MHz (more MHZ has no much sense
to many people, IMHO), 256 MB SDRAM (or DDR SDRAM if it is availabe),
a Ultra Wide SCSI controller and accompanying 30 GB hard drive. It's very likely
that you save some money to buy a medium-prices GeForce 2, and overall
performance will be MUCH better, as benchmarks show.

I'm sure PART (the inner 0.2 inch) of it gets modified. I wonder if
that could be the "header" info (though cdroast -toc fails too).
You get into lower level debugging that I usually do, but I'm glad
you reported it. I'll look into removing cdrecord.c's "dirty hack"
as you suggessted after I build and try cdrecord 10.x.
Thanks for the info. I'll report my final result.

Over aliasing of ls found on default Mandrake 7.0... user setup:
$ ls C*
CHECK.dbx* CHECK.dbx.mbx <<<note helpful * to show executable
$ ls C* > n <<<bad place for helpful * here!
$ cp `cat n` /var/tmp
cp: overwrite `/var/tmp/CHECK.dbx.mbx'? <<<[could have been a lot worse]
$ echo `cat n`
CHECK.dbx CHECK.dbx.mbx CHECK.dbx.mbx
$ alias l ll ls
alias l='ls'
alias ll='ls -l'
alias ls='ls -N -F'
isn't l, ll good enough? Why do they have to break ls?

Then your MB or disk has something wrong with it. "autotune" means
choose the best rate offered by the disk. "noautotune" means choose
a conservative setting, usually PIO. I thought the _default_ was
"autotune", but obviously I am arong.

Tell mandrake about it. Maybe they thought like me that it was the
default, so it couldn't be harmful.

Hi all,
I have an abit VA6 board, which uses the via apollo pro chipset. It
comes with onboard sound, but abit doesn't make any claims as to what
the chipset of the onboard sound is. Has anyone had any luck getting it
to work with linux?
When the sound is enabled in the bios, using the redhat sndconfig tool
doesn't detect it at all. I also tried using a 2.2.17 kernel and
inserting the only via-related sound module I could find -- this hung
the entire machine.
Any ideas of things to try?

I think it depends what you are running....
You need to allow the connections at the firewall... or forward them to
your other machine if thats the only machine receiving X-windows
connections...
The firewall still has to allow them through...
Below is an example to allow them at the firewall... but you can get an
idea where to go from here...
#
IPADDR="your.ip.addre.ss
ANYWHERE="any/0"
#
XWINDOWS_PORTS="6000:6063"
# Allow establishing a remote connection from your machine
#
ipchains -A output -i $EXTERNAL_INTERFACE -p tcp -y -s $IPADDR -d
$ANYWHERE $XWINDOWS_PORTS -j ACCEPT
#
# Allow incoming X Windows connections to your machine
#
ipchains -A input -i $EXTERNAL_INTERFACE -p tcp -y -d $IPADDR
$XWINDOWS_PORTS -j ACCEPT
#
#
#
You also need this open...as Openwindows uses another port...
#
OPENWINDOWS_PORT="2000"
#
# Allow Outgoing OpenWindows Connections - .
#
ipchains -A input -i $EXTERNAL_INTERFACE -p tcp -y -s $ANYWHERE -d
$IPADDR \
$OPENWINDOWS_PORT -j ACCEPT
#
ipchains -A output -i $EXTERNAL_INTERFACE -p tcp -y -s $IPADDR -d
ANYWHERE \
$OPENWINDOWS_PORT -j ACCEPT
#
Or a rule to just forward port 2000 connections to your solaris box.
Depends what you are running on Solaris.

I had the exact same problem with Mandrake 7.1 CDs which I
had burned. It turned out that the old CDROM in my computer
couldn't recognize burned CDs correctly. When I replaced it
with a new CDROM Mandrake installed perfectly.
Try switching to another virtual terminal with ctrl-alt-F4 (or F3 I
can't remember which) and see if the install is reporting that your
CDROM is losing interrupt.
If so, you may need to replace the CDROM, or alternatively buy
the pressed 7.2 CDs

partition no problems.
