Hi All;
I set pppd with chmod +s /usr/sbin/pppd, as root So my users can dial

lost.
Whats wrong????
Also I have set up inn as a newsreader, with pine. But can not figure
out how to set it up so I do not have to start innd after very reboot.

Edit the /etc/fstab. I usually copy the setting for my linux /
partition. //i think that the filesystem type is called VFAT//

My recommendation would be an IBM S/390 compatable mainframe.
Excess MIPS, terabytes of disk space, gigabytes of memory space,
extremely high speed peripheral connections (fibre channel is
_fast_!!) and will drive a world-wide network without even breathing
hard. Of course, the pricetag is a killer, but you _did_ ask for the
*best* computer to run a Linux server on.

Tell us which distro you use, and then somebody can help you out.
Without this info we cannot give you a nice solution which actually
doesn't screw up your distribution.

Or he could copy the data on a normal partition (ext2/FAT) and do an
install from a local HDD. But i doubt you can do this directly from a
local iso image.

Fdisk does NOT show you what filesystem is actually on a partition, it
merely shows you partition types. (Although I do believe you actually
have a FAT32 FS there, I cannot tell this from your fdisk listing)

Kevin,
what scanner and monitor do you use? Both influence the colors when you compare
them on screen.
Also the gamut of the monitor and the printer don't match so you will always have
some colors that can't be displayed on both.
But I think you should take another look at what you're scanner is doing... On my
monitor (Iiyama VisionMaster 400; color temperature 6500K) the scanned image is
much darker and more blue than the digital photo.
How does the picture on your monitor compare to the print (without the scanner)?

the other post I've seen (There might be more) is at c.o.l.misc
I will not respond to messages that are posted like this (Although
usually you see this too late) I find it very rude, I can spend my time
better on postings that haven't been answered yet. This way I and others
keep giving (the same) solutions even though it was already answered.
Multiple posting is a very obvious pointer that someone doesn't want to
take the time to do his own homework. Probably never even looked if the
same question was answered before on deja either.

hello folks,
Since 3 days I'm playing around with a Aims Lab RadioTrack device which I'm
trying to install under RedHat 6.1 for my Cajun in my car. I just don't know
how to get it to work and/or to test it in an easy way. The things I found
is that I should use V4L with the following commands:
insmod videodev
insmod radio-aimslab io=0x...
the problem is that I don't know which I/O settings to use and that I don't
know how to check if the settings I used are correct. with some devices you
can do a "cat /dev/device_name" but /dev/radio just gives something like
"device not found".
Can anyone maybe help me out with this ? I ain't very familiar with V4L and
am a just a user not a pro.
Greetings & Thanx in advance,
Wil Beeren

Look for error messages when you run:
/sbin/lilo -v
(You did make a boot floppy, didn't you?)
You might try various combinations of "linear" and "compact" in
/etc/lilo.conf. You can try these out without editing lilo.conf by using
the -l and -c switches to the lilo command. Try each and then both.

Subject: No Audio CD [NOT Newbie]
Date: Fri, 06 Oct 2000 07:31:07 GMT
Hi all - I'm having some trouble getting audio cd's to work under
linux. I'm running Mandrake 7.1 with a pioneer 16x ATAPI DVD and a
SB Live Value. Using the brown bag mandrake 2.2.17-4 kernel package.
(Time has become more scarce recently. :) It works fine under windows
[sigh].
I _have_ noticed that some things don't work well with mandrake 7.1
unless you install while they're physically running; if you add them
later, mandrake can't seem to handle it. The loading of the emu10k1
module, for instance.
Anyways, I can use it as a data source fine, just not an audio source.
Here's some interesting things from /var/log/messages:
Sep 28 19:45:40 rubberducky kernel: hdc: command error: error=0x50
Sep 28 19:45:40 rubberducky kernel: end_request: I/O error, dev 16:00
(hdc), sector 64
Sep 28 19:45:40 rubberducky kernel: isofs_read_super: bread failed,
dev=16:00, iso_blknum=16, block=32
Sep 28 19:45:40 rubberducky kernel: ATAPI device hdc:

key=0x05)
Sep 28 19:45:40 rubberducky kernel: Illegal mode for this track or
incompatible medium -- (asc=0x64, ascq=0x00)
Any ideas??? I REALLY would love to get audio CD's working under
linux. I *think* I had a different, normal CD 16x running under this
once and audio CDs worked fine there, but I'm not sure.
So many thanks,

You open up a terminal window (gnome-terminal, xterm, rvxt, eterm, etc) and
type something like:
ssh foo@bar
assuming you want to connect to foo's account on bar. You can also copy
files:
scp quux.c foo@bar
would copy quux.c to foo's home dir on bar.
man ssh
man scp

However, this won't stay mounted while you reboot your system and boot the
installer!
So you need to copy the contents of the above to a "real" partition on your
system that will be available for a hard drive install. Or you can do the
above loopback mounting on another unix system and do an NFS, FTP, or HTTP
install (you'll need the bootnet floppy). All the while remembering that
cheapbytes.com only charges $3.50US for the 2 CD set.

It's probably because when pppd is started it is spawned by one of the
system accounts....just go into your init.d scripts and add a line in that
spawns it as root as opposed to whatever user is spawning it....
