I need to set up a linux server. The server is acting as a firewall,
also masquerading the clients behind it. I need to configure qmail to
all these clients to send messages to the outside world. With
'firewall.server.com' as the out going SMTP server, I get an error
message stating that, 'the host (whatever account I am sending to), is
not found in rcpthosts'. Any hints on how to fix this?

Sorry so long,
RCW

as far is which version of linux...i think you'd be pretty happy with
mandrake.
i did try a umsdos installation and it did work...( performed a bit slower
than
a standard ext2 install)
if you do the ext2 install you will have to partition your drive first.
partition magic is probably the best choice ..the the free utiltiy fips
will work...you just have to defrag first

There is another fix for the gforce which was posted a while back by a
guy who went by the handle of Sam S. Onite. As I recall, he suggested
changing the os-agpconfig.h file from the nvidia kernel 9.5 driver.

After the following line,

#include<linux/autoconf.h>

Insert this line,

/*

Then go down to the following line,

#endif
*/ (insert the asterisk forward slash here)

#ifdef AGPART

(file continues on without further addition)

Once this change is made to the os-agpconfig.h file, type make<ENTER> to
properly compile the kernel driver. Then install the nvidia glx 9.5
driver. I have used this aand it works fine. You do not need to go to
Xfree86 4.02.

Good luck.

Only 1000 mb to go, proceeding at 3k a second! SOON, SALVATION WILL BE
WITHIN MY GRASP!!!

After years of being forced, stuck, in Windows NT, deliverance is at
hand!!! THE TIME OF JUDGEMENT HAS COME!! The great penguin will place the
unworthy bits on his left and the worthy bits to his right... salvation
will given to those on the right, while those on the left are to be LOW-
LEVELED to ETERNAL DAMNATION!!!

Being an artist, I need applications, photoshop, dreamweaver, flash,
illustrator, lightwave 3d, alias wavefront maya... they don't run on
linux. even if they do I don't have the money to buy a licence for it.

My video card is a firegl 4000 which is based off of the 3Dpro/2mp
chipset by Misubishi / Evans & Sutherland... when the card was being sold
at the retail price of 2000 dollars 3 years ago, I got it for 500...

It's been 3 years and there is still no X server for the card. I know 3
programming languages but I have no idea where to begin learning how to
write an X server... I would like to try to learn on my own without a
development team rushing me to get things done... I am a very slow
learner, but a good coder, are there any docs on this sorta stuff?
                            ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
I'm a CS major and my school pretty much REQUIRES that I run linux to
take upper division courses. I bought red hat 5.2 back in the day but
took it off because of the video driver issue--put NT back on. I am not
downloading RH 7 as we speak (only 1000 mb over a 56k left!), I thought
about slack, but think I want to get used to something easy first.

Now, otherwise, I am FUCKED... I can get the card to work with the
onboard backup chipset that only has 1 mb of ram... and I think I can get
it working without acceloration under a commercial package... BUT I WANT
MY CARD TO WORK!!! I can not stand NT!!! I've been stuck in NT for 3
years because of this stupid video driver...

Someone at squaresoft, where I want to work, told me to get the firegl
cause it was better for maya.... but now I can't get in linux...
waaaaahhh.

IF I run NT in VM ware over linux, will I be able to run VMware | NT
using the full capabilities of the card? or will Xfree limit it some how?
Will the resolution switch? ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Hello,

don't know what you want to do with it...

I have set it up like this:

S0:123:respawn:/sbin/agetty -L 9600 ttyS0

This way a can login using my HP 48 GX Calculator, which has a progam
installed
that emulates
VT52 terminal.

Really cool, if someone has never seen this, that your are able to login
from
this small calculator....:-)
And it can help you to avoid those nasty hard reboot, if there is no way
getting in the machine....

man inittab has lots of info....

Good luck

And what is your deduction? I have said repeatedly "read the files",
and all you say in reply is "I have read the files". If you were to
summarise them, or comment them, I might believe you, but at the moment
all I conclude is that probably you don't know how to read shell
scripts.

You have the full story below. Comment on it meaningfully, instead of
behaving like a beached eliza whale. And for the umpteenth time, learn
to QUOTE. Nobody will take you seriously if you demonstrate that you're
unable to undertake the intellectual work of abstraction and semantic
analysis necessary to contribute to the conversation, let alone that
of analysing and apprehending the scripts we're talking about.

Try again. This time with semantic input.

Once again, I leave the man page quote in my reply, even though I
haven't commented on it ... please take it as an invitation to do so
yourself. What I expect from you know is a walkthrough.

I'm not sure you can buy Sparc builds of Linux in boxes (maybe
from Redhat), but Linux has been running on Sparcs for a long

This is most embarrasing to ask how to connect to the Internet. I have
version 7.2 and the modem is detected properly, proof of which is the output
of wvdialconfig. Now, there is of course DrakConf and Network and Internet
Config. When I choose "Configure network connection" and fill in the ISP
info I get an offer "Do you wish to connect the Internet?" I say yes,
whereupon a remarkably inappropriate meassage comes back telling me that "
You don't appear to be connected to the Internet" and that I should
reconfigure my modem connections. Needless to say that all my previously
entered config data disappeared. Is this a catch 22? I'm offered connection
but then before I get it I don't appear to be connected.
How is it that the thousands of people with Mandrake 7.2 do not report this
problem?
Is there no means to access the previously entered modem config in KDE and
to click on an icon like (Kppp was in version 7.1) to connect?

Any help would be thankfully appreciated,

Peter

Are you trying to connect to your Linux Box via Serial Cable? I run
Red Hat Linux 6.2 and I added theses lines to the /etc/gettydefs
# 38400 bps Dumb Terminal entry
DT38400# B38400 CS8 CLOCAL # B38400 SANE -ISTRIP CLOCAL #@S @L login:

# 9600 bps Dumb Terminal entry
DT9600# B9600 CS8 CLOCAL # B9600 SANE -ISTRIP CLOCAL #@S @L login:

Then I addeded this /etc/inittab
# For COM1
S0:23:respawn:/sbin/getty ttyS0 DT9600 vt100

After that I ran
init q

I connected via HyperTerminal and noticed that you need to hit <ENTER>
to get a response, also it wouldn't respond properly, so I installed
TeraTerm (Freeware Product, no reboot needed) and it worked fine.

That means that the driver can't find a device to use.

Try `insmod 3c59x` instead (my 3c905 uses it)

You can explicity give everyone access to it by doing

chmod a+rw /dev/dsp (/dev/audio, /dev/mixer, etc. etc.)

Or, you can use chkconfig(8):

chkconfig --add smb --level 35
