I had someone set up my computer for dual boot w/
Windows and Redhat on a partitioned hard drive.
I would like to format the Linux side and use it
for storage of Windows files. I have Partition
Magic 5. Is this program ok for what I want to
do? By the way, I had to reset my BIOS, and no
longer have a LILO prompt, and can only go into
Windows. I don't know much about this subject at
all. Here's a view of Partition magic on my
computer:
http://www.people.virginia.edu/~dal3q/part/partiti
on.htm

The hard drive is 8GB, and the guys that set it
up said I "have 1.5GB for Linux and 6.5GB for
Windows." Does anyone out there know how to do
format this partition so I can use it for
Windows? I'd be greatful for any help. Thanks.

I take it you don't want linux anymore?
If you want to create a large single partition (I'm going from memory
here - not used pm for a while) right click on "Extended" and select
delete. Then right click on "C:NO NAME" and select resize.
Don't forget to select "Do process" or whatever it says at bottom -
otherwize it won't get done.

Yeah, and also, make sure your libpath evironment variable has the QT libs in
the path. Also, make sure the program you are trying to compile was written
for your version of QT. Version 1.x is not compatable with version 2.x. Let
me know if you have any other probs. C Pungent

Subject: Executables can't execute
Date: Sun, 07 Jan 2001 06:57:05 GMT

Background of problem:

Have nice PC with RedHat 6.0 upgraded manually to 7.0. Recently came by

a 486 with 120 Mb HD and 4M memory. Thought it would be a fun challenge

to install small linux on it.

Well. In the process, I made changes to the small linux diskette by
using my main computer. So, stupid me deleted all non-essential
programs from /mnt/floppy/sbin. /mnt/floppy/sbin was a symbolic link to

/sbin!!!

OK! So I had a main computer that wouldn't boot. The rescue diskette
would allow me in but not to boot the main installed root on the HD. So

got it to a prompt with init=/bin/bash...

I didn't feel confident that I could get all the programs back as they
were without a full 7.0 installation on another computer as a reference.

So I went to the RedHat 7 directory and force installed all rpm's except

the rpmdb and unused kernel variations. This worked fine and got me
back up and running with few problems. I would expect some problems
related to downgrading things upgraded with Update Agent.

Anyway, I tried to run Update Agent to get the system back up to speed.
It wouldn't run. So I went to /usr/sbin and tried to run up2date --
nothing. Tried ./up2date, bash up2date, and even bash ./up2date. In
all cases it tells me up2date: no such file or directory. Did ls -l
up2date -- it had -rwxr-xr-x.

I know that pam is used to authenticate the programs that are failing.
But I'm running them from the location of the actual program, not the
symlink. And, yes, I'm running as root.

What on earth have I done???

[note crossposts and followups]

I'm running RH 7. Installing new rpm's, querying rpm's, etc, all work fine.
But trying to use the up2date program bombs with this text:

    [~]# up2date

Retrieving list of all available packages...

Removing installed packages from list of updates...
    100.0%
Removing packages marked to skip from list...
    100.0%
    Getting headers for available packages...
    100.0%
Removing packages with files marked to skip from list...
There was a fatal RPM error. The message was:
    error reading from database
    [~]#

So after scouring the man pages, I tried "rpm -v --rebuilddb". It sat
for a while and then exited, never printing a thing. (So much for -v.)
Still got the same error from up2date.

What is it talking about and how can I fix it? I am not an rpm expert...

Much thanks for any tips,
Phil

Exchanges servers can have a flag set which says "only allow Outlook

If your Exchange admins have set that flag, you're screwed.

If they have not, then any POP3 client will work just fine.

You should end up with the linux LILO boot loader which gives the
option of what to boot

Appearantly not so incorrect, as it fails on this

I'd say fix the problem. I don't know if you even can disable this, but I
wouldn't try. In this RAM disk, the root FS is to be mounted. Disable it and
you will have a very nice non-working system.

What *is* on hda1? Is it what the installer expects to find? Is the
installation tree present? Or did you put the iso image on hda1 and point to
that?
I'd check that out, instead of trying to disable the RAMdisk.

Hi,
RH6.2 Q:
Can i activate tcsh from user's .bash_profile by typing:

if (! $?tcsh && $?prompt && -x /usr/um/bin/tcsh ) then
          exec /usr/um/bin/tcsh

This should act like user with bash typed "tcsh" at the prompt when
logged in. right?.
Not sure about the tcsh's location. I have to "which tcsh".

Did you check out linux/Documentation/Changes, for the problem
with ppp? you will needto upgrade ppp, as well as iptables/ipchains to
get this working correctly (iptables/ipchains if you're using some
firewalling rules). But for ppp, you must use at least 2.4.0b1. there is
a full 2.4.0 out, which works fine. I jumped from 2.2.17 to 2.4.0 with
no problems.

you must upgrade to ppp-2.4.0 for use with kernel 2.4. also,

Hi there,

I want to download Mandrak Linux 7.2 and I found there are that many many files
