Hi to All,

I have this problem over RedHat 7, if I setting on linuxconf default
boot mode To: Graphic & Network; the boot don't change.

If I set id:5:initdefault: on my inittab I can make Graphic login but
when I open the console windows I don't have the path /sbin or /usr/bin.

How can I do to set up also this path (/sbin & /usr/bin) in runlevel 5
?!?!?!?

Thank you very much

Stefano

I have problem with erratic mouse behavior with my freshly installed
version of Mandrake 7.1 and 7.2.
During the installation portion of Mandrake Linux the mouse works fine.
There are no problems with mouse tracking on the screen or erratic
behavior. However once the Linux system reboots with xFree86 system the
problem with the mouse begins.
The mouse works but the tracking is not always correct on the screen and
programs called that are executed that were not called.
I have tried Mandrake Linux distributions 7.1 with xFree86 version 3.3.6,
and Mandrake Linux 7.2 with xFree86 versions 3.3.6, 4.0.0 and 4.0.1 with
any success.
I've also tried using different mouse(s) to correct the problem; two
button, three button, and two button with scroll wheel still without any
success.

This PC is a dual OS with Windows ME The mouse(s) work proper with Windows
ME.

Does anyone have suggestions or have encountered this problem also?
I will appreciate any feedback concerning this problems.

If you are using "su" then you need to use "su -" instead to get the
full path.

Tell the installer to not use the MBR (master boot record) for lilo.

The easiest way to do this is to run Xconfigurator and then select
your default resolution so that it matches the highest resolution (ie,
if you like 800x600, then choose that but be sure not to also make
1024x768 or higher resolutions available).

You are probably running ntp already, or ntpdate is still running,
trying to sync to the latest time (most ntp startup scripts run
ntpdate first and then ntpd).

You can also run xntpdc and type 'peers' to get a list of the current
strata levels for your setup.

Looks like your disk defragmenter ruined the Linux partition. A lot
of defrag utilities will utilize 'unused' space on the disk to
temporarilly store sectors while copying. It could be that the
defragmenter that you used thought that the Linux partition was blank
(ie, not FAT or HPFS).

Yep, I used to use the standard Berkely lpd -- it is horrible. LPRNG
really is a great, mature system.

Well, you can force module insertion with the -f flag:

  insmod -f my_module

They *are* the same kernel version, but modutils doesn't think so
because of the mdk and mdksecure names.

You don't mention which disribution you're using, but I'll assume a
PAMified version: you need to either add your secure authentication
to the pam.d files (if you can), or replace the login program with
your version.

If you installed all of RH7 you should have a utility called webmin
available to you. Just open your webbrowser and use
https://localhost:10000 and your root un and pw and under the network tab
there is a section for samba. There is a utility there to convert unix
users to samba users. Hope that helps.

Date: Mon, 08 Jan 2001 16:32:39 GMT

  Hi,

I'm trying to install linux(redhat 6.2) into my laptop using pcmica cd-rom. So I
booted with pcmcia.img diskette and got the pcmcia cdp-rom initialized.
However, after selecting language and keyboard, the installation process shows me the
following section. I tried over and over without a success.

What type of media contains the packages to be installed?

                Hard drive

As it shows, I have no choice. Usually in this stage of installation we have to have
several choices: Hard drive, cd-rom, and so on.
I don't know why I can't see other options but 'Hard drive.'
Of course, this pc card cd-rom works fine after installing linux( I used to install
linux into this laptop using parallel port cd-rom before and now trying with pc card
cd-rom).
The pc card cd-rom is Toshiba 20x pcmcia cd-rom.
Any idea?

There should be an images directory on the CDROM with instructions on which
image to use to make a bootable floppy disk that when booted from will give
you access to the pcmcia hardware.

If you did want access to calendars, or wanted to be able to see sent mail
etc. from your Exchange mailbox, then it might be worth asking your admins
to set up Outlook Web Access. It's surprisingly good, and gives a subset of
Outlook features through a web browser. HOWEVER there are issues with
authentication, I think it should work with Netscape but I'm not 100% sure.

First I don't know the card. There should be a README file with
instructions.
Generally a pre compiled module (the file with the .o extension) is for
a specific kernel version. What you do is, you copy the file to the
directory /lib/modules/*/net run "sbin/depmod -a" and insert the module
in the running kernel with the command "/sbin/modprobe NAME" where the
name is the name of the module without the .o extension. Now When your
kernel version doesn't match the the version the module was compiled for
you need to compile it yourself.
Most likely you first need to install the rpm with the kernel headers,
the follow the compile installations (usually something along the lines
of
        ./configure (or make configure)
        make
        make install
