Sounds like X did not configure properly during install. Try running
XF86Setup as root from the command line. This will help you to
reconfigure X.

Hmmm... I may try that..
The thing I am really after is whether you can alter the mount filesystem
search order - i.e. force it to try the udf BEFORE it tries the ISO9660
I may try to post under that topic actually.
Thanks.

it is -e)

Hi there
I reformulate my question
Is there a way to force mount to search for a custom filesystem BEFORE the
ISO9660 ?
I have CDRWs that have both the CDR fs and the UDF and mount always mounts
them as CDRs. But I would not like to have two different mount commands idf
possible. The -t auto always tried the ISO9660 fs first.
My proc/filesystems contains NOTHING.

It's winmodems that are a problem, a regular pci modem is a 'real'
modem. Is this Redhat 7 or 6.2. in RH7( I believe RH6.2 has it too), run
rp3-config at the command line as root. This will find and configure
your modem automatically.

It's -e
If it was installed from a tar or tar.gz. You just have to locate the
directories and delete them. (unless the program in question has
included an uninstall script.

RedHat will not install on FAT16/32 partitions. You need separate
partitions for the install. And yes, you will have to format something.
Read everything on this page except for the kernel programming type
stuff:

Subject: Bizarre problem on Samba
Date: Thu, 01 Feb 2001 23:48:17 GMT
Hi,
I am running a RedHat 6.2 server, with samba 2.0.7. I have the NT 4.0
server doing the authentication. It seemed like it
was working really great -- until I ran into this strange problem.
I wanted to make a shared directory for one of our departments, that is
not browseable to others. I have a non-browseable share of the /home
directory. I made them a directory underneath this: /home/group1. I
planned to give them a shortcut on their desktop, to take them straight
to the shared directory (/home/group1) on the server.
Here is the problem -- whenever certain Windows NT users try to click on
the icon of the folder, or a short-cut to the folder, it says that the
directory was not found! -- BUT -- if I put in the UNC in the address
bar (i.e. //server/home/group1) it is accessable! It seems that it
only has problems if people CLICK to the directory.
(Beleive me on this -- our users need to click! They would be way to
confused if you actually tried to teach them to type in addresses.)
However, the same user logged into a Win2k machine does NOT have the
same problems! Only in NT! All NT boxes are on Service Pack 5.
Can someone please tell me how to fix this?
Thank you!
Here is the snippet of code in smb.conf:
[home]
path=/home
browseable =no
admin users = person1, person2
valid users = person1, person2,+homeshare
write list = person1,person2,+homeshare
read list = person1,person2,+homeshare
(I know that some of this may be redundant, but I have been trying
everything!)

Hi,
I'm using serial in LILO and for the

except interaction with LILO (and sysrq,
but I'll get to that another time).
When I send a break, LILO gets stuck and
I can't send anything else. The
behaviour is the same with kermit or
minicom, and with or without a prompt
statement in lilo.conf. The settings
are 9600n8, and these are the codes sent
by my keyboard:
shift= 2a aa

alt= 38 b8
sysrq= e0 2a e0 37 e0 b7 e0 aa

Subject: no boot at all: DVD?
Date: Fri, 2 Feb 2001 10:45:33 +1030
I'm trying to install Linux (Mandrake v7.2, Kernel v2.2.17). The initial
screen comes up OK and upon hitting return it loads the image and starts the
boot process, but this process freezes after printing out the following:
hda: ST320423A, ATA DISK drive
hdb: BDV 108A DVDROM, ATAPI CDROM drive
As you can see I have a DVD drive. Does anyone know that this will cause a
problem? Is there a boot disk I can get hold of that handles DVD drives? I
know Linux can handle DVD drives, but maybe the boot disk can't.
Can anyone tell me at least what Linux is trying to do at this stage of the
boot process?
(BTW Windows 95 has no problems booting!)
Thanks

Subject: Moving boot
Date: Fri, 02 Feb 2001 00:41:41 GMT
I have redhat 6.0 installed on a pentium 90 with 4 hard drives. When I
installed it I had to use a floppy to boot because of the locations of
the partitions I was using for linux but now I have cleared some
partitions. In fact except for the first partition on the first hard
drive I could use any other partition to put /boot on so I tried to move
/boot and change my lilo conf to boot to the new drive but when I run
lilo -v it tells me that the hard drive has more than 1024 cylinders but
fdisk says it only has 524 it is a 500 meg disk. I'm not sure what to
do now. I copied the kernel to the new partition with the mkbootdisk
command I don't know if that even works for hard drive partitions but it
did copy files to the partition. I am including the output of all the
commands and the contents of lilo.conf on the floppy and the one on the
hd in /etc as well as the error I get when running lilo -v and I have
upgraded the bios on this computer so it will see disks up to 8 gig.

I'm not an expert in this area or anything, but I just noticed your post
and remember briefly thinking about this problem as well. It occurs to
me this might be possible using software RAID. But then again, maybe not.
I think there are also some filing system extensions that allow multiple
storage devices to be considered as one amalgamated storage device, but
again, the details escape me.
I hope this somewhat limited reply might point you in the right

Subject: HELLLLPPP!!!! problem configuring gnome-libs
Date: 02 Feb 2001 01:08:35 GMT
Hi,
After I tried installing a few programs (enlightenment-conf, and some
other stuff) I got messages like -
"checking for gnome-config... no
checking for gnomeConf.sh file in /usr/local/lib
configure: error: Could not find the gnomeConf.sh file that is generated
by gnome-libs install
"
doing rpm -q gnome-libs I'd either find that I had a version of helix
gnome or (after mucking around with downgrades) a version of redhat's.
I went out and got the latest (I guess) version of gnome-libs (1.2.9 tar
file) I tried installing THAT and I got message
"checking for umode_t ... no
checking for dbopen... no
checking for dbopen in -ldb... no
checking for dbopen in -ldb1... no
checking for __db185_open in -ldb-3... no
configure: error: your db library is missing db 1.85 compatibility mode
"
Now for all the stuff that didn't work
1) marched over to sleepycat.org and picked up their db .. now that
installs just fine and yes I specified --enable-compat185 in the
configuration thing ie I typed ./configure --enable-compat185
so that installs in my usr/local/BerkeleyDBlahblah
and of course I get the same error messages for the previous programs
2) so I check out configure for gnome-libs and I see an option to -datadir
which I promptly set to /usr/local/BerkeleyDBlahblah
no cigar
3) get smart and download the rpm source for db3 - repeat step (1) (but
without the /usr/local/DB bit. )
4) get real desperate and try compiling the rpm source for rpmdb
5) run out of my house weeping like a woman till neighbors start throwing
shoes at me (ow!)
6) rip out my last remaining hairs
HELP HELP
HEEEELLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(I need help :D )
anyway if you can email as well as post, I'd appreciate it, as I am very
desperate for a solution to this.
