Welcome to the club! The same thing happens to mine.

I have the Dell Inspiron 5000e with the ATI Rage mobility 128 capable
of 1600x1200. Nice machine. I have no other problems with it other
than the flicker and no apps on the bottom line (like the Gnome [foot
print] icon).

If you should find a solution I would appreciate if you could notify
me. I will do the same should I find a solution first. Use my e-mail
address if you want. Of course, I'll monitor this site and thread as
well.

Thanks.

What happens when you try to boot it?

There are a couple of things that could be wrong such as Lilo is
misconfigured in /etc/lilo.conf, or you have an older version of Lilo
and your Linux partition is beyond 1024 cylinders.

If you post the following:
1) the contents of your /etc/lilo.conf file
2) the output of the command 'fdisk -l' (lower case L)
3) the output of the command 'lilo -V' (upper case V)

...it will likely reveal the problem(s).

Hi. I've been having a problem with all the debs that have been
available for Nautilus (from woody). When I run Nautilus from an xterm
all i get is the follow repeated over and over:

** WARNING **: GConf error:
  Configuration server couldn't be contacted:
Adding client to server's list failed, CORBA error: IDL:CORBA/BAD_OPERATION:1.0

I've tried removing ~/.gconf, /etc/oaf, ~/.nautilus, ~/Nautilus, etc. I
was able to get one version of Nautilus to run except it was really slow
and same warning kept repeating in the xterm. Any ideas. Thanks.

I have the same problem with Realplayer 8 RPM install on RH7.0 too.
Download and run the binary installation of Realplayer 8.0. Realplayer
8.0 works well.

Subject: Newbie needs help with Roadrunner
Date: Sat, 10 Feb 2001 03:02:49 GMT

ok; i'm really new at this, and i just need some
help getting Linux to talk to roadrunner. Once I
can get online in Linux things should be better.

Anyway, Windows says that the card that Time
Warner installed is a Netline PCI card from
Farallon, that its IRQ is 10 and its I/O setting
is 1400-141F. I've installed Red Hat 7 and
everything else seems to work. I found the
Network Config utility, and I can add an eth
interface and set it to dhcp at boot (that's what
i'm supposed to do, right?), but I'm not sure
what to put in the IP blank.

I also found the Kernel Config utility. I can
add an eth module [up until now I saw no signs
that Linux knew I had an ethernet card], but
there are several options for different types of
modules. Are those like drivers?

If you guys could help me out with this, I'd
really appreciate it and I think I'd be okay from
there.

files. I get "chown: /msdos: Operation not permitted" when I try to
change owner. How can I allow normal users to write to the partition?

Hi

just in the process of building gcc 2.95.2 from source tarball, and get the
following error

/usr/include/linux/errno.h:4: asm/errno.h no such file or directory

I know there is something missing here, any suggestions?

Do you have a symbolic link from /usr/src/linux/include/asm to
/usr/src/linux/include/asm-i386 (or other approrpiate arch-specific
directory)?

Figured it out, so thought the fix may help others.

ln -s /usr/src/linux/include/asm /usr/include/asm

does the job.

yeah, u can setup IP masquerading and point the 'workstations' to use
the PC connected to the Net as their gateway, using the IP address.

This may not be the best way but it works.

? Not sure what you mean. a PPP connection is a point to point
connection. It does not care where the packets came from or where they
are going. You can have 10^12 computers on one side and 10^12 on the
other (good luck in setting up the routing).

Hey someone else with my problem! Always good to hear.
I'm currently talking to Mandrake about this problem, they're looking at it
for me so I'll keep you posted. I don't think they're that familiar with it
as at first they thought it was my DVD drive. But I have tried a RedHat boot
disk with a kernel version of 2.2.16 and a Slackware boot disk with version
2.2.18 (Mandrake's kernel version is 2.2.17 but I can't find another boot
disk with this version) and both worked, so it must be something to do with
kernel 2.2.17 or something to do with the way Mandrake have set up their
boot disk.

G'day!
Made some changes following suggestions for tt fonts.
Must have messed up, and now the screen just flashes after
the auto login through Mandrake 7.0
Ctrl-Alt-BS doesn't stop the blinking and I can't work out how
to get out of this mess, just have to crash out and reboot.
Can't get it to do any different on the reboot however.
I type "I" following Mandrake screen prompt to break in,
but don't seem to be able to turn off the auto login.
Any suggestions would be most helpful!!!

To get out of this one try this:

Alt Ctrl f1

Not seen Mandrake but under RH you do this to change your default runlevel to
get back to a command line logon

edit your /etc/inittab and change the line that looks like this

id:5:initdefault:

to

id:3:initdefault:
