Hi!
I always get an empty page, when I print using lpr for printing to my
Laserprinter (HP2100).
I have tried to use cp file /dev/lp1 instead of lpr, then there is no empty
page.
My Box: Suse-Linux 6.3 Kernel 2.2.13
Is there a better solution than using cp ?
thanks, Josef

Most of the old dot matrix printers do, or can be set to, emulate Epson LX
(9-pin) or LQ (24-pin) printers. So one of the "Epson Dot Matrix" 9-pin
selections should work for the FX 100+ and a 24-pin from the same group
may work for the IBM. Not sure about the others. If all else fails
select "Text-only printer" and then set up a seprater filter for them
using gs per the PRINTING-HOWTO and 'man gs'.

Anyone can encrypt anything they want to. The question is whether they
can decrypt it. 8^) Mount the drive if possible and see if the password
looks like any recognizable crypt format.

I am looking to build a high reliabilty server and have found a source of
high end MB's
They are surplus gateway ALR 7200 sever boards with dual channel adaptec
7980 + RAID port
www.adc-ast
Has 4000449 Gateway ALR 7200 Server Motherboards $99
w / Digital 21150 PCI-to-PCI Bridge,
Chip set is intel BX
The lengthened slot is a shared PCI/RAIDPort, which will accommodate either
a PCI adapter card or an Adaptec RAIDPort III controller.
Any hope for linux runnig on this with out too much work, it's the Digital
21150 PCI-to-PCI Bridge that concerns me.

Subject: Pass through printing in telnet session
Date: Sat, 17 Feb 2001 13:35:20 -0500
Heres what I am trying to accomplish.
Two Linux Boxes A & B loaded with RedHat 6.2.
A telnets to B, logs in and runs a proggy that executes vt100 Escape
Sequence (slave.on) that turns on local printing until the Escape
sequence
is traped that turns of local printing (slave.off). I have done this
with
Dumb Terminals connected by a serial connection and with telnet
sessions in
winblows using CRT's telnet emulator.
I have tried this with a Linux telnet session hoping that the telnet
session
on A would trap the slave.on/slave.off sequences and redirect output
to A's
parallel port. Needless to say I can't get it to work.
I have tried changing the TERM on B to vt100, vt102 and it still does
not
work.
The TERM setting on A is set to Linux and changing this does not work
and
only corrupts the display.
I checked /etc/termcap to actually investigate whether The Linux
terminal
definition supported slave.on/slave.off but I only got more confused.
Has anyone done this or can at least lead me in the right direction.
TIA

I have been struggling a bit with this. Does anyone have a concise procedure
to set up apache? I have been looking at the how to's and trying things, but
it doesnt seem to be working.
Running Redhat v 6.2
Main machine is running a firewall to cable modem...working fine.
4 machines connected on a network.
Linux box...IP: 192.168.0.1
Samba is running...fine
FTP ....ok
DNS for cable modem ....ok
(might need something here)
I Set up host names.
check resolve.conf...lists what seems to be needed.
I must be missing something...not sure what
If I go to one of the machines on the local network, use Explorer ( they are
running windows), try http://boxname......it can't find it
Any help appreciated.

Use C-Kermit 7.1 as your Telnet client:
http://www.columbia.edu/kermit/ck71.html
Pass-through printing is explained here:
http://www.columbia.edu/kermit/ckermit2.html#x3.3
Note: this feature was added in C-Kermit 7.0 but it had a bug, which is fixed
in C-Kermit 7.1.

can you connect to your apache box if you type its IP in your browser, rather
than
hostname, if true, your DNS doesn't seemd to work for your LAN, easiest way
would be to setup a file
on your winbloze box similar to /etc/hosts, called LMHOST?, not sure, as I use
no M$ products...
Good luck

run from an xterm, so the display you're working at is already running
X. Them use ssh with X11 forwarding enabled, it isn't by default on most
ssh clients, "ssh -X user@remote_machine" then start the application
remotely, either with the open command "open xclock" or otherwise in the
background "xclock &", so that you can still use the commandline to
start other programs.

understanding how Xwindows fits together a little bit. I see that I can
start an editor (emacs in this case) by double clicking on a C source code
file in my 2.4.1 tree. How would I go about changing the default editor for
double clicking an edit session from within GNU Midnight Commander 4.5.30 to
say gedit (as opposed to opening a terminal and executing gedit).

Simple.
Edit the line in configuration file of mc (Midnight Commander) which defines
which editor to use.
There is global file in "/" and one for every user and each can configure the
application to her/his preferences.

If the cron works on another box and not on this one, there is the
possibility that the "crond" on your box is not right.
Try
0,30 * * * * /bin/ls -al /etc
If it works, you will receive an email every half an hour of file list

Subject: Enlightenment menus vs. GNOME menus
From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] (Sean McAfee)
Date: Sat, 17 Feb 2001 21:36:05 GMT
I run Slackware 7.0 at home with a GNOME/Enlightenment desktop. When I
right-, left-, or middle-click on the desktop, I get an Enlightenment
menu. By combining the Alt key (IIRC) with the click, I get GNOME's
behavior instead (ie, a selection rectangle for left-click, and a short
menu for right-click). I like this behavior.
I recently installed TurboLinux 6.0 on a new laptop, which also runs
GNOME/Enlightenment by default. However, Enlightenment's menus seem
to be inaccessible. Every desktop mouse click is handled by GNOME,
no matter what combination of modifiers keys I add to the mix.
How can I arrange for Enlightenment to handle desktop mouse clicks
instead of GNOME?
Thanks in advance.
