Check the modem.inf file on the setup floppy for Windows that came
with the modem; most probably all you need is a correct init string.

This is an english NG, most people here (like me eg.) cannot read french
very well.
Turn to a local french NG if your english is poor.
To answer your question: check termination of the chain and check if all the

Afte some looking today, I found the gdm.conf file. The X login is started
by prefdm. This eventually runs gdm which reads the configuration file.
If you log on with the getty sessions (CTRL ALT Fx), the .bash_ profile is
read.
I think BitTwister may be onto the issue. I got to thinking that the X Login
manager is a "non-login" session. I'm going to write a message in the
gdm.conf file to see if it comes out after logging on.
If the scripts in profile.d aren't executed, I think the only place is the
gdm.conf file.

AFAIK there is no support for ATA100 controllers in any distros
installation disk, and certainly if you want to boot off anything
except hda (the ata100 interface starts at hde), you'll have to
muck with bootparams.
This is a FAQ. Look it up.

I recently upgraded my RedHat 6.1 install to XFree86 4.0.2, and as a
consequence, I upgraded glibc to version 2.2, using the RPMS from

complains that it can't find an STL that is either HP like or SGI like!
What have I done?!!! Can anyone help? I'm desperate!!!

Don't use insmod try:
modprobe -v aha1542
man modprobe for more info
Read /usr/src/linux/Documentation/modules.txt (comes with every kernel tarball)
gives some info how loadable modules work/setup.

Sawfish doesn't start automatically anymore. I get about 20 gmc errors
(little itty bitty boxes sitting on the taskbar). I have to click on
the Gnome foot, and go to run, and then type in SAWFISH, and then I'm
OK.
Xmms is also flaking out, so I'm wnodering if I didn't do something
that's hosing everything! Any guesses?

telling me that port 22 is already in use and the service refuses
