Folks....

I have been using Netscape for mail on Linux for a long time because it
supports HTML and Javascript and graphics.

But it has also lost some of my mail...and the address book doesn't work
worth squat. I can put entries in there, but the TO: line never finds my
nicknames...so I have to manually enter the addresses anyway (v4.76).

I also have PINE set up....and the default mailer with RH 7.0....but
they all lack HTML, javascript and graphics.

Is there a good mail client? I use Lotus Notes for my work e-mail via
VMWare in a Windows 98 VM. I would prefer to use a Linux mail program
for my personal, non-work mail.

Opera doesn't have a mailer or I'd try that.........the browser is very
good...though it doesn't support plugins or most other essential
stuff....so Netscape is still No 1.

Help! This is bugging me.

I have just done a fresh install of Redhat 7 and made sure I put in the
following modules:

php
php-imap
mod_php
php_mysql
mysql
mysql-server

My question is that when I try to browse a file called test.php3
containg just :   <?php phpinfo(); ?>
I get the text instead of server output. What do I need to change in my
httpd.conf file to tell the server to execute files with php
extensions. I tried randomly adding: AddHandler php-script .php .php3
.php4 .phtml to my httpd.conf file, but to no avail. I also made
sure that all lines pertinent to php in my httpd.conf file were
uncommented.

thanks,
jon

Hi

I have got a problem with my printer!
When I send a printjob to my printer, it start's printing (that seems to be
normal), but it does not print what I told it, I just get some weird code
and I continues to print page by page, until I unplug it.
I have tried to connect the printer to my WIN ME machine, and it works like
a dream, so nothing's wrong with my printer.

I'm using CUPS on a Mandrake 7.2
And my printer is a: Canon LBP-4I

Could someone please help me?

thanks, I'll do some more digging. I too am running Caldera 2.3 -- I tried
every processor downgrade that made sense -- the machine is actually a
dual-processor celeron 500.

Interesting thing is that it compiled fine and ran but I discovered that I
had not turned on 'scsi generic' in the config required to operate the scsi
CD burner on the machine -- once that was turned on, the compile error
showed up.

From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] (Paul Nulsen)

I've just installed Debian 2.2 on a PC with a 3COM 3C905C-TX PCI Ethernet
card. The kernel appears to detect the card properly. The relevant
messages are (hand copied):
eth0: 3Com 3c905C Tornado at 0xc000,  (MAC address), IRQ 11
  8K byte-wide RAM 5:3 Rx:Tx split, autoselect/Autonegotiate interface.
  MII transceiver found at address 1, status 24.
  MII transceiver found at address 2, status 24.
  Enabling bus-master transmits and whole-frame receives.
The IRQ and base address agree with /proc/pci.

We are on a simple 10BaseT network, with a single default gateway.

The interface seems to be configured correctly (ifconfig reports the correct
parameters; /etc/network/interfaces has the right params, including gateway
IP), but ifconfig reports 0 RX packets permanently. I've tried forcing the
media type (and full_duplex in various combinations) using insmod (and the
media forcing is reported by the driver). It may be transmitting, but I
have no easy way to tell. It reports no timeouts or other errors.

All this is using the default kernel and modules (2.2.18pre21).

Does anybody have any ideas? Maybe I have done something stupid.

Thanks
Paul Nulsen

Yes, this what I already had uncommented in my httpd.conf file:

# The following is for PHP4 (conficts with PHP/FI, below):
<IfModule mod_php4.c>
  AddType application/x-httpd-php .php4 .php3 .phtml .php
  AddType application/x-httpd-php-source .phps
</IfModule>

# The following is for PHP3:
<IfModule mod_php3.c>
  AddType application/x-httpd-php3 .php3
  AddType application/x-httpd-php3-source .phps
</IfModule>

# The following is for PHP/FI (PHP2):
<IfModule mod_php.c>
  AddType application/x-httpd-php .phtml
</IfModule>

However I still get text to come up instead of having the script run.

Try StarOffice 5.2. It can handle HTML-Mails, though I didn't check the

Ok,
        I have a GeForce card in my box, and it's running great. What driver are
you selecting for it when you do the installation? What version of X is
Mandrake installing?
        If you've tried the basic Nvidia drivers (GeForce DDR and GeForce 256) and
they don't work, you might need to install some generic SVGA driver, get the
system up, then d/l the latest Nvidia drivers from their site - along with
the most recent version of 'X', if you dont have it (X is up to 4.0.3).
        There has been some complaints about the nvidia drivers, but they're working
great for me, and should support and GeForce based card.

HTH,
Steve

One word of warning concerning Star Office.....!!!!

The installer blows bat chunks... Download the binary file - switch to
root - enable all the permissions - and then install by the user account
you will be using it from...Else you'll find out the hard way that it
isn't a very friendly installer...

        In 6.2 on an IBM thinkpad shutdown -h shuts power down. Suggest that
the original poster look at the shutdown script. Setting state to 5
will
shut the sytem down if the system supports it and the init prog knows
how
to do it on the system in question. Remember the security hole. With
the system
shut down, anyone can become root without alerting anyone else
if they have physical access to the system.
