Run Xconfigurator as the root user.

You need to upgrade your gtk-engines package.

3D does not at all (usually).

Yes, LVM comes with all newer SuSE distros (>6.3) you can
configure your volume setup with yast from CLI.

Whenever an application tries to print to cups they invoke a lp process.
This is the process I kill. If I kill the process Netscape or StarOffice
returns to normal but I don't get a print out.

Yes, this works. Lately I have been printing by first printing to a file
from inside the application. Then openning a console and going "lp
output.ps"  to get my printout.

Now do you see why I am soo confused. I don't have a clue was wrong.

Another thing is that bootstrapping gcc and compiling itself is one of
the first things a new snapshot of a compiler does. So whatever else
may or may not be wrong with gcc 2.96, you're pretty rest assured that
it can compile itself without incident.

It truly is pretty safe to use gcc 2.96 to downgrade to 2.95.x.

With spadmin?

> Any suggestions?

Do you get any error messages (start StarOffice from a shell to see
them)?

Star Office 5.2 configures the printer in the file
StarOfficeInstallationDirectory/share/xp3/Xpdefaults

It should have a section that looks like this:

[ports]
; In this section reside the print commands for the queue names.
; ...
default_queue=lpr
;default_queue=lp
djlvh-color=lpr -Pdjlvh-color
ps-t30rz=lpr -Pps-t30rz
ps-t30rz-single=lpr -Pps-t30rz-single
ps-t30her-single=lpr -Pps-t30her-single
ps-t30her=lpr -Pps-t30her
ascii=lpr -Pascii
raw=lpr -Praw
pslvh-duplex=lpr -Ppslvh-duplex
lp=lpr -Plp
phaser=lpr -Pphaser
djlvh=lpr -Pdjlvh
fax_queue=/usr/local/Office52/program/sfax.bin

'pslvh', 'lp' ... are printers seen by StarOffice. When you print to
them 'cat myfile.ps | lpr -Ppslvh' is executed.
If you can print with 'cat myfile.ps | lpr -Plp' (I don't know what
printing system Mandrake uses), the above 'lpr ...' entries should
work for you, too.

bzImage may be too big too.

MODULES MAN, MODULES!!! I simple rule of thumb I live by...Don't
compile drivers into the kernel unless you have to!

Your kernel is "too big" if it's > 640Kb.
