Using spadmin, set up your printer as HP Laser Jet 4 Plus. Make that
your default printer.
This assumes, of course, that you have properly configured your print
system to print PostScript out of the default printer.

I did a search at http://www.tuxfinder.com/ and came across some 4.02
i386 RPMs but they're under libc5 directories.
The source is available, however.
Kind of strange that there aren't any updated RPMs (I don't use
RPMs anyway but still).

Did you read the README file?
Just some sugguestions:
$ ./configure --help # to see what all the options of configure and pick the
correct ones.
$ vi config.log # look at the configuration log file to see there is a
problem.
$ vi some_make_configuration_file.mk # look at the make configure file to
see if it is correct
$ vi makefile # look at the makefile and add your corrections to your
makefile

Hi, I am running RedHat 7. When I try to override the emacs line editor with
set -o vi it will not work when I login. If I type it on the command line it
will work just fine. If I place it into the .profile then type . .profile it
will work just fine. But if I leave it in the .profile and logout then login
it will not work. How is this set for login?
Thanks
PS - also tried /etc/profile, /etc/bashrc, ~/.profile, ~/.bashrc,

i guess that works too, but if you want to do it only occasionally, it's
easier to bring up the boot prompt (see lilo configuration) and type
linux 3

I'm not sure I understand what you're asking here. I'll assume that
you want to have syntax highlighting and other programming functionality
when editing Java and html files with emacs on your home system. For
Java, there is a very good package called JDE (Java Develpment
Environment). It does syntax highlighting and the compiler-error bit
you mentioned, plus quite a lot more. Check out
http://jde.sunsite.dk/
As for html, I'm not sure what's the best choice. (Maybe the PSGML
package). You should visit the home sites of emacs (or xemacs if you
are using that) to find what packages are available.

hda19? U do know there *is* a limit as to the # of partitions that can
be on a hard drive right? 16 is the most u can have on the drive. 4
primary partitions with the last one being a logical one, and then 12
extended partitions. Have you reached that limit?
It sounds like you have.

Run: lilo -u
Delete all linux partitions with linux fdisk, and format back to DOS/win
format.

Even then, after the initial install, you may be unable to boot from HDD.
boot using a bootfloppy, and run `fdisk -l /dev/hda`.
You now get a partitiontable, showing the cylinder boundaries.

No need for that.
Again, the fdisk command will show you these values.

I would agree. I know that almost any desktop PC nowadays has support.
For labtops, I would also expect them to be up to date (these extensions are
several years old now) but I haven't been in the position to try.
Could it be that you made a mistake somewhere?
You said you got nothing when you first tried to boot.
then shifted the /boot and without running /sbin/lilo again,
you now got LI. That's a bit odd already, as lilo knows only the
physical addresses of the bootstuff, so moving them should only make things
worse, never better.
Now you have your system adjusted, I can't see why it failed anymore.
But if you ever try again, run `fdisk -l /dev/hda` and `cat /etc/lilo.conf`
and post
both here if you cannot get it to boot.

Hi,
I'm using Linux Mandrake 7.2.
I have installed all the XDesktop environnements (KDE2,KDE1, GNOME,
WINDOWS MANAGER.../...).
When i type "StartX", it runs Gnome !
I would want to start with KDE for this user.
I know that it exists "Destop Swiching". But with this version of Gnome
i didn't find.
Can you give me the name of the program for destop switching ? The
informations about sessions and XWindows desktop are stocked in which
file (.xsession ?).
Thank you !

It is in your XF86config (check spelling) file. There is an option to have
a virtual screen.
I don't like it either. Just change the virtual screen option.

Check your home directory for some files like:
.X.err
.xsession-errors
May be they can give a clue what went wrong, if it was possible for
your X server to write some data, if you have a second machine, try
to login with ssh, often you can't do anything on the console
(CTRL-ALT-[F1-Fn] not working), but the kernel is still running fine
and the machine can be accessed remote.

You burned the disks incorrectly. You should have used the "burn from
image" command to create a bootable CD from the ISO image. The exact
way of doing this depends on the burning software you use.

Burn new CDs with the correct command.

You should "install" the new kernel, not "upgrade". That way the old
kernel is not removed.

Hello Mike,
hard to tell from your post, try to connect with "ssh -v -v
...your_options",
may be this gives you a clue, if not, post the output, which version
"ssh -V"
you use to connect, version of yout sshd & your sshd_config could be
helpfull.
May be, posting on comp.security.ssh would be better...
