On Solaris you should be able to do this
set -o vi
EDITOR=vi
As long as ksh is your startup shell

Hm, did you check /etc/hosts.allow and /etc/hosts.deny?
Is the nfsd running on those machines?
"rcnfsserver status" should show if the other boxes are SuSE too.
You may want to check this man page, it contains info about the
hosts.allow and hosts.deny file and the setup:
man 5 hosts_access
Good luck

Bob,
I too struggled with this for a while (with RH6.2).
The solution I came up with was to create a file in my home directory
called ".inputrc", containing just one line:
set editing-mode vi
The presence of this file in your home dir overrides the system-wide
default
file, "/etc/inputrc". The explanations for this stuff are in
man bash
and
man readline

Hello, everyone,
I have installed both windows98 and linux7.0 on my PC and both of them works
fine. but I can't see the files of each other. I mean to have windows98 and
linux to share the same files in the same computer. I know there are some
system can do it(I once see window2000 share files with linux6.0). But I
don't know how to make the configuration. or I just need some other
softwares to support this function?
Please help if anyone knows it.

If you are using PowerQuest, you must be using Partition Magic. also RTFM on
how to create linux and
linux swap partition.

No, you need to purchase vmware or dos4lin to have WinMe or Linux on at the
same time.

How (or where) do you configure the printer so that the specified margins
match what's on paper? I remember eons ago, in WordPerfect for DOS you
could specify and offset X,Y that would adjust for individual
printer/driver differences. Right now, printing from SO is useless for
me, as everything is flush top/left, no matter what I setup in spadmin
for a margin.
Thanks.

For WIN there is a tool called explore2fs, search with you favorite
search engine.
In Linux you need to set it up in /etc/fstab to get
it mounted on every boot like this:
/dev/hda? /mnt vfat defaults 0 0
This may need a little tuning, depending on you setup,
try to mount first from the commandline:
mount -t auto /dev/hda? /mnt
Check with "mount" (without any options) what filesystem was detected,
if it's working fine
you should edit /etc/fstab.
For more info:
man mount
man fstab
Good luck
Michael Heiming
PS.: You can create (mkdir) a directory where you want to mount the WIN
partition,
I just choosed /tmp cause I knew it should be on your system.

what the size, keeps saying not enough free space, even though the

This used to be caused by not making a /boot below cylinder 1024
But that was with 6.x releases. Still try to make /boot (16 MB ~ 1 Cylinder)
the first partition on that disc. Can you proceed if you do that.

What I usually do is mount the image then burn to cd. Works everytime.

Hello.
When installing RH 7 for the first time, I get all the way to the Performing
Post Install Configuration progress bar, then the whole thing appears to
lock up. The progress bar moves maybe one eighth of the way, then stops.
I have tried leaving at that point for several hours, but it does not
recover. Am I being too impatient? Or should it sit there for longer?
And what is the way to get out of this lockup? I have to turn the computer
off to restart.
System details if they help:
AMD K6 II 450
8GB windows HD primary master
1.2GB drive secondary slave for Linux, partitions deleted during disk druid
and the using automatic partitioning
Installer saw and correctly identified mouse, keyboard, vid card, monitor
SMC Etherpower 10/100 (Probably to be the topic of another post, if I ever
get that far)

Every time you su, you open a subshell. Many commands run in subshells.
Look at your .bashrc file (or whatever echo $BASH_ENV says)

Why would you do this? It's complicated and likely to lead to
inexplicable errors.
Just do normal IP routing instead. Give the two remote machines
different IP addresses, and you'll be able to contact the machines
separately using those addresses. This is the way IP was designed to
work.
If you insist on using this strange Linicism, you're certainly on your
own. Good luck.

I'm trying to get my ISDN set up on my Linux installation but I seem to
be stuck. The manual only addresses Windows and not Linux. I'm at the
point where I have the Pipeline box hooked up to my machine and I think
the ethernet card is configured and working (I can assign it an IP
address and ping it).
Okay, but now what? The installation instructions say that I need to
connect the Pipeline box to my machine's serial port. Done. But now
how do I proceed from here? I suppose I need to configure the serial
port now, right?
Questions:
1) How do I use setserial to set up the serial port to communicate with
the Pipeline box?
2) How do I set up my ethernet card so that upon start up it is visible
when using the route command (I don't want to use ifconfig everytime I
start my machine)?
Thanks!

I'd like to use the mandrake, but can't if I can't find a way to get
