Every 15 minutes is *way* overkill--especially if you don't have a permanent
Internet connection.
I suggest you take a look at clockspeed: http://cr.yp.to/clockspeed.html.
On pentium-class machines, it will correct for systematic clock drift. One
server at my place has been running it for 17 days now, and it's still
within 127 milliseconds of the atomic time.
Note you will want to run "hwclock --systohc -u" periodically, so that the
hardware clock is reasonably accurate after the next reboot.
You will probably want to zero out /etc/adjtime as well, or else comment
out the call to hwclock in /etc/rc.sysinit. If you have to make a largish
clock adjustment, which often happens the first time you set your clock,
then adjtimex plays havoc with your clock forever after.

Also - you can check out the nVidia web site and pull down the latest:
http://www.nvidia.com/Products/Drivers.nsf/Linux.html
I have downloaded these, but haven't installed them yet because my
system works happily with the supplied drivers (XFree86 4.0.2) and
because I'm wrestling with bigger problems at the moment. I'll
install them eventually.

Hi,
I'm interested in trying Linux under a dual-boot situation with Win98 SE.
The problem is that I have an OEM version of Win98 SE from Tiny, who made my
Pc and they didn't give me the Win98 SE disk, just a rescue CD that
automatcily reformats and reinstalls Windows. so this means that I can't
reformat everything and create partions. I would like to know if it is
possible to create partions in something like partition magic and then
install Linux into them?
Many Thanks,

one hub. I want to make router for SDI interface(Ericsson), it's connected

I've heard, that this can be done, there are some programs, that can be
loaded on a single floppy and everything will work
I've got question:
-what system?
-what programs?
-how to do that?
-what do i need more?
Please help, i ask for links and files

Get chrony. (www.chrony.org) It will not only act as an ntp client, and
set your clock to atomic time, but will also examine your hardware
clock, determine its error and rate of error, and next time you boot up
and use chrony -r -s it will use that info to set the computer time
correctly from the hardware time corrected for error and drift.

Most (read all) external SERIAL modems work, many external USB modems are
Winmodems. I have a Winmodem with a Lucent chipset that does work. There
is a Linux kernel driver for it, I think I got it at the Lucent site.

Hi,
>From RedHat Press Release:
export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5
. /usr/i386-glibc21-linux/bin/i386-glibc21-linux-env.sh
This messages I guess should get directed towards RedHat. I've
installed RedHat 7.1 and following the instructions for Oracle and 7.1
(in the Press Release from RedHat?) about tricking out the kernel Oracle
seems to install and link properly. But...
After installing or relinking Oracle something is wrong and I believe it
has to do with RedHat and their little party they are having with the
compiler.
What I found:
I have a Oracle 8.1.7 database and listener running on say
johnny.rockets.net
if I do a:
$ORACLE_HOME/bin/tnsping johnny
I get:
TNS-03506: Failed to create address binding
But If I do a:
$ORACLE_HOME/bin/tnsping johnny.rockets.net
I get:
Attempting to contact
(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=johnny.rockets.net)(PORT=1521))
OK (20 msec)
Before any tells me to check my resolv.conf and nsswitch.conf this does
work:
/bin/ping johnny
64 bytes from anger.laserlink.net (192.168.102.5): icmp_seq=1 ttl=249
time=5.643 msec
64 bytes from anger.laserlink.net (192.168.102.5): icmp_seq=2 ttl=249
time=5.504 msec
64 bytes from anger.laserlink.net (192.168.102.5): icmp_seq=3 ttl=249
time=8.764 msec
64 bytes from anger.laserlink.net (192.168.102.5): icmp_seq=4 ttl=249
time=5.870 msec
64 bytes from anger.laserlink.net (192.168.102.5): icmp_seq=5 ttl=249
time=20.974 msec
64 bytes from anger.laserlink.net (192.168.102.5): icmp_seq=6 ttl=249
time=8.921 msec
64 bytes from anger.laserlink.net (192.168.102.5): icmp_seq=7 ttl=249
time=5.450 msec
and so on....
My resolv.conf does have the lines
search rockets.net
nameserver {ip for ns1.rockets.net}
nameserver {ip for ns2.rockets.net}
In RedHat 7.0, 6.2 - this definitely works.
I really wanted 7.1 to get Oracle Certified but I think we'll have to
wait for 7.2. RedHat is starting to let me down - I really wanted the
2.4 kernel in a Oracle Certified Distro.
RedHat please help,

Keep the primary 2 gig FAT partition as it is i.e. WinNT.

You don't say what flavour of Zip drive you are using - I use a parallel
port version. There is a very good zip drive mini howto which covers most
of the things you need to know. It should be in the mini section of the
howto folder on LM7.2

Could you verify your sqlnet.ora please?
It is in $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin or /etc
It looks like it doesn't have the line
names.default_domain = rockets.net
names.default_zone = rockets.net
which is on other platforms definitely a reason for getting an error when
you don't use it in your tnsping parameter.

Make sure you defrag your windows partition and then use partition
magic. The linux-mandrake install has partition magic in it and you can
change the size of the windows partition and add linux partitions in the
newly made space. This works well!!

I don't know what you are using for your graphical CD burning software, but
I get excellent results with gtoaster from Gnometoaster.org.
I believe it is the only graphical front-end that makes use of the
multi-session capabilities of 'cdrecord', which you can also control from
the command line (see the cd-writing HOWTO).
The trick is, you have to first import the previous session, add the new
stuff and write - gtoaster then creates links to the existing tracks during
the write.

I'm using RH6.2 and have installed it on a GA-7ZX with a Duron 800.
When configuring sound with sndconfig it autodetects Ensoniq:CT5880. But
when it goes to play the sample sound the system locks up.
/etc/conf.modules has the following inserted: alias sound-slot-0 es1371
Reading other post with similar issues I changed it to the following: alias
char-major-14 es1371 with no success.
I even tried modprobe with different arguments; es1371, char-major-14
es1371, es1370 just to see what will happen, but still no success.
Is this a 6.2 issue, would upgrading fix it?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ok, I won't say it... I'm sure someone else will :-P.
try checking out http://www.linmodem.org (or something like that)... I've
heard there is nominal support for some of the chips, but not all.
IMHO - get a real modem, let the modem due to the work, save your cpu for
