Compiling a kernel with egcs

How is EGCS coming along. I'm interested in trying it for kernel
compilation on my SMP machine. Could somebody report the options they
have successfully used in the Makefile? I guess I'd want to use some
of the new optimisations, otherwise I'd stick with gcc. I use 2
PII233's.
