Whiners, ninnies, sissy sys admins, and Intel lackys go home and wait
for your kernel to compile.....don't read this.
==============================================
These CPU's are completely insane.
I bought 2 Celeron 300A's and 1 333. I got the 333 has an aid to help me
reverse engineer the fixed multipliers. When I got them and my new motherboard
I figured, OK I'll TRY a 300 @ 450. It's been rock solid for
4 days now.
So I'm staring at the 333... "Wonder if it will even start up?"
Zen-Machine# [~] cat /proc/cpuinfo
processor : 0
cpu : 686
model : Celeron (Mendocino)
vendor_id : GenuineIntel
{snip}
bogomips : 499.71
It ran for quite awhile but froze during a torture test. I've been hacking
it today and with the CPU core voltage dropped it's now running STABLE. IHMO I
think >500Mhz is possible.
I'm going to be keeping extensive running notes on my hacking of this box,
updated several times a day. I have not yet even dove into the bus speed, CPU
multipliers, or running dual. (Mouser where are my 0.5mm drill bits!).
Please keep an eye on: http://www.psychosis.com/doa/
If this CPU can be stable for a few days solid I'll be announcing to Tom's
Hardware, et al. One thing is very clear already though...anyone who lays out
the money for a real PII, needs to get hit in the head with a hammer. Grab your
celeron A's soon, as I doubt Intel is going to sit by and let
this last...
