(IMHO) A good idea is to never use the kernel that comes with a
distribution if you know how to compile your own. You can always
download 2.2.10 or the latest kernel and then compile your own.
I have noticed that several distributions do there own kind of
"funkiness" to the kernsl that they distribute. And sorry to say
but Redhat is really big on that one. (I DO use RH too). SUSE
distributes there kernel and a stock kernel ususally and you can
install one or the other. I have tried some of the other
distros, but never kept them on my system long enough to
actually deal with recompiling a kernel.
First I do not understand why you are getting this error
either, as the rpms should have compained about compatibily? I
hope you did not use the --force --nodeps when installing them.
Personally If I really needed 2.2.5 then I'd download that
one from kernl.org or metalab.unc.edu or one of the many place
out there to get a kernel. This would ensure that you have the
right header. And while you are out there get 2.2.10 :-)
Also if you bought the official RH 6.0 you can call there
tech support, and/or go to there web site and search bugzilla,
to see if it is a known bug.
