then the problem may be in IP & SMP
or
.. It has been suggested that X may not be handling the new
shared interrupts, on some machines, (IO-APIC interupts shared
betweeen multiple processors) very well .. since shared
interrupts is new in 2.2 and this would effect the I/O ..
