I'm running software RAID on an SMP box. board is ASUS XG-DLS with
on-board dual channel Adaptec SCSI bus. I have 2 (18Gb, IBM) drives on
each bus in a RAID 5 configuration. It just works. Kernel is 2.2.6,
distribution is Debian 2.1. I can't see why hardware RAID would be a
problem if the device just presents a single SCSI interface to you.

I never really got a chance to see how much faster the machine is with 2
processors vs. 1 processor at handing the RAID before I put it into
production - maybe one wet rainy weekend I'll have a play with it.
