What system are you running it on? Usually, if you compile a kernel with
SMP support (you have to tweak the Makefile for that), the SMP support is
enabled by default. When the kernel is booting up it should tell you
whether it is SMP, and whether is has found SMP hardware in your system.

The out-of-the-box RH kernel doesn't support SMP. Is this what you are
referring to?

I have had no problems with it, as far as SMP is concerned. Are you sure
you re-compiled and re-installed all the modules as required (if any)? It
might be a good idea to back up all your current modules on
/lib/modules/<kernel version> before you replace them, just in case you
need to revert to the old kernel, which you know works at least enough for
a rescue operation...
