Aha, I suspect this *isn't* the usual "make modules modules_install"
problem after all.  If we're talking about RH6.0, isn't there some sort
of weirdness about the shipped setup, that barfs totally on NFS with a
standard kernel?  The RH6.0 version of 2.2.5 is hacked to do NFS their
way, but there's some fairly simple tweak to make things work properly.

I forget quite what the simple tweak is though, but IIRC it might be as
simple as just taking extra care with the way you specify the NFS
options during "make config".

At any rate, the "non SMP version of the modules" bit is probably a red
herring.  Somebody here ought to know the correct tweak to make NFS do
the right thing...  If you still have concerns about the modules, just
do "rm -rf" on the relevant /lib/modules subdir.
