I am administering 20+ Linux stations. All of them run 2.2.x (2.2.7 currently).
We have different singe/dual PPro/PII configurations (at least 5 different
motherboards). All computers get berzerk mouse approximately once a month.
Switching to virtual console (Alt+Ctrl+F2) and then back to X (Alt+Ctrl+F7)
fixes the problem immidiately (X does not have to be restarted). I do not
observe problems with the clock on all of the machines. The problem does not
seem to be connected with a specific window manager (I observed it with fvwm2
and KDE). All our machines use Logitech MouseMan plugged into a serial port and
run gpm on virtual consoles. X is also configured to use Logitech MouseMan (not
/dev/gpmdata).
This problem have never been observed in 2.0.x kernels. I suspect a bug in
kernel serial code or a bug in gpm.
