You might wanna try and disable the second onboard interface.
Or have the modem card assign a different address (serial port).
Further you could probably face an irq problem. Check carefully if the
irq used for the serial interface/modem, isn't used by another device.
Had a similiar expririence with a NW board. Everything worked fine
in non-SMP mode. The moment I switched to SMP the NIC worked totally
sluggish. Moving the card to different slot then finally made
it assigning a different interrupt and it worked.
