OK, I'm confused. I've watched my linux smp kernel boot countless times with:

OEM ID: OEM00000 Product ID: PROD00000000 APIC at: 0xFEE00000
Processor #1 Pentium(tm) Pro APIC version 17
Processor #0 Pentium(tm) Pro APIC version 17
I/O APIC #2 Version 17 at 0xFEC00000.
Processors: 2
...

Asus admits "The ACPI MP support on these boards was not fully enabled, because
there was no ACPI OS which could support multi-processor system at the time we
shipped those boards...To resolve this issue requires both a BIOS upgrade and
hardware rework."

If I get this "rework" done, will it break the board for linux?
