This page is good news, it just shows that the above mentionned marketdroids
feel it's about time to take DEFENSIVE action, at least on the servers market.
Of course, they do it the microsoft way, so there are a few bugs left. May be
we'll see a servicepack for it...
This leads to a more serious debate: AFAIK, Linux has no legal ID, this means
that nobody can speak or take legal action for Linux (GNU being a different
matter). So, for instance, nobody can ask officialy M$ to publish an answer
correcting the false allegations the page contains. Correct me if I'm wrong.
So, it may be time to think of something like a non profit organization in
charge of Linux interests (Linus T. for president !), funded by volontary
contributions from people and company that make money with Linux, and that
could take care of actions like :
- getting Linux admitted as a UNIX variant
- getting Linux certified as POSIX compliant
- getting security certifications
- delivering certificates to trained professionnal
- taking press and/or legal actions when necessary
and the like...
I know purists of FREE software won't like the idea, I'm not sure I like it
myself, but it may be about time, as business is more and more interested in
it.
