After reading several SMP posts regarding questions for SMP tools, SMP load problems, and other SMP load distribution issues, I would like to make the following recommendations: * SMP LINUX (and its kernel builds) should make SMP aware versions of ps, time, xosview, and others. these should be included in the distrubution by default. * should come with a defined protocol which explains how the SMP kernel distributes loads by default * should provide utils (which exist but whose name escapes me right now) to override default distri- bution protocol * provide some test programs which if run in combin- ation with the xsoview and others measures prove out the default load distribution. when folks buy LINUX for its SMP capability, there needs to be a way to understand its default behavior, the possible departures from the default behavior, and tools to acutally see the default behavior. in its current state, LINUX features SMP but offers no repeatable and consistent way to interigate a specific motherboard/system configuration to verify all is per the default protocol. this may lead to the wrong connatations sales and marketing wise. i do not expect to buy SMP LINUX and then "wing it" from there. -Shane - Linux SMP list: FIRST see FAQ at http://www.irisa.fr/prive/dmentre/smp-howto/ To Unsubscribe: send "unsubscribe linux-smp" to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
