When I installed, I had to manually select the SMP kernel (and a number
of other things because I chose custom installation for Redhat 6.1).
I think that the default is not smp and, if you are planning on
re-installing, you should select this kernel as well. Linux
automatically detected my cpus and set the smp kernel as the default
when I told it to install this kernel as well as the non-smp kernel.
