Hi -
We have a large number of L440GX+'s, and have battled crashes and resets
for several months. Here's what finally worked for us:
- upgrade BIOS and BMC firmware (BIOS: 11.1, BMC: 105). These
are available from http://developer.intel.com/
- try different memory. This is the most important one. Stick to the
recommended list. (We've switched off of the recommended list (because
it's often hard to find the specific parts Intel specs) and have been
successfully using PC133 memory from Micron. Do this at your own risk.)
- with lots of SCSI activity 2.2.13 was bad for us. Kernel 2.2.14 seems
to have solved the problem (10+ machines running under heavy load for 12
days now with no crashes or resets; prior to changing to 2.2.14 we saw
resets about once/machine/day).
Our experience is very similar on Intel N440BX server motherboards.
