Just one warning which may not be related but may help others anyway.
I had BIOS setup configuration corruption after using the lm_sensors
module. It happened on the Intel MB SMP (which was shipped in our VA
Research boxen) and also on a friend IBM laptop. In both case the
corruption was:
- reproductible, just installing the module was generating troubles
- hard to fix, i.e. requiring a factory fix
Usually the problem shows up only at the next reboot (making it really
hard to debug).
I understand that the problem is due to the lm_sensors module probe
done at initialization, walking a device list in the configuration
bus, and unfortunately the probe seems to conflict in some cases with
the way the devices expect to be programmed/changed.
I dunno if the problem is inproper use of I/O space by the lm_sensors
module or non conformant implementation of the given motherboards. I just
know it can happen, and if so it can make the machine not even pass the
POST tests, rather annoying when on a production machine :-\
