I specified "noapic" when installing RedHat 6.2. However,
here's this clip from my /var/log/messages:

My question is this -- is it using the APIC or is it just
recognizing it and then ignoring it? The reason I chose to
use "noapic" by default is that when I had Mandrake 6.0
installed, it would always lock on trying to scan the IDE
bus, but specifying "noapic" at the LILO prompt would allow
me to complete booting.
I'm not even sure if I need the "noapic" option any
more.... Here's my system:
Dual PPro 200 Mhz processors (sequential serial numbers
even! <G>) 192 Megs RAM, about 18 Gigs of drive space
(mostly SCSI) and Voodo3-3000 PCI. This is a Micronics
W6-LI dual-PPro, Intel PR440FX chipset motherboard with a
Phoenix bios. Unfortunately, there is no updated BIOS
available for this board from the manufacturer. I have a
message in to the sales department at Microfirmware (the
vendors for Award/Phoenix) to see if they have a generic
PR440FX BIOS upgrade available.
Thanks...
