Your question prompted me to update the .message file on the ftp site, which nevertheless seems not to be displayed by my browser when I go to that site.

The versions that end with a letter designation are considered alpha code.  Only experienced LiS users should use these versions.  I usually publish these when I have made major modifications and would like some external testing of the code, but don't want people using it in production just yet.  LiS-2.17 has been in the state for quite awhile.

The versions that end in numbers are usually just a bug fix or minor feature enhancement within that major version number.

The latest "approved" version is LiS-2.16.18, but I really should release LiS-2.17 sometime soon as people seem not to be experiencing problems with it.

Dear sir,

I would like to understand the naming convention used on your FTP site
ftp.gcom.com/pub/linux/src/LiS. Suppose I wish to donwload the latest
LiS-2.16 file.  What is the difference between LiS-2.16.B.tgz and
LiS-2.16.18.tgz?  In other words, how are letters different from numbers in
the 'z' position of a version number of the form 'x.y.z'?

Also, is LiS 2.16 or 2.17 the latest production-quality release?

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,
David Odren
