I'll be very happy to have a proper KMS driver as well, but a KMS driver
won't help me find my most common boot problems (i.e. when the kernel
was not compiled properly, when U-Boot doesn't find the kernel, when the
kernel command line has a typo, ...).
It's important to have visual feedback directly from the boot-loader.
The x86 platform has had that "for ever" via the BIOS and it's one of
the key elements that makes those machines much more usable by
the uninitiated.
