Benchmarking read- and writing speeds between SATA and RAM on various
kernel versions from 3.4 up to 3.18 always show an unexpected slowdown for
writing. I used a 3TB WD red disk which allows reading and writing in the
outer zone well above 100 MBytes/s.
Hooked to a BananaPI board, reading speeds are above 100 MB/s and follow
the speeds limited by the disk drive. However, writing is about 4 times
slower and I could not yet find an authorative answer explaining it.
Imho it is either a software bug in the kernel (configuration), i.e. DMA
not running at the same clock speeds used for reading, or it is a problem
in silicone of the A20 chip?
