Hello,

Basically, do we want to have some usable 3.4 kernel for Allwinner H3
in one of the https://github.com/linux-sunxi/linux-sunxi branches?
Right now there is 'sunxi-3.4' branch, which supports A10/A13/A20.
Also since some time ago, Allwinner provides their 3.4 kernel at

    https://github.com/allwinner-zh/linux-3.4-sunxi

with the readme, which mentions "Support A31/A31s, A23, A33 and A80
platforms". But right now there is no H3 support there:

    https://github.com/allwinner-zh/linux-3.4-sunxi/issues/14

Personally, I would like to see Allwinner taking care of their 3.4
kernel, so preferably https://github.com/allwinner-zh/linux-3.4-sunxi
should eventually become usable for H3 too. But it does not look like
this issue is going to be addressed any time soon.

Now about my involvement in this whole Allwinner H3 story. I did some
experiments with the Allwinner's 3.4 kernel some time ago. Specifically
with the following two purposes in mind:

  1) Ensure that we can easily check default clocks and hardware
registers configuration as used by Allwinner and use them as a
reference. So that the same setup can be replicated in the
     mainline U-Boot and the kernel:

http://git.denx.de/?p=u-boot.git;a=commit;h=52d093112a307b2dd1ae46f8bd6ba7904760ac57

  2) Validate the reliability of the DRAM setup. Poorly selected DRAM
configuration used to be a rather common occurrence on A10/A13/A20
hardware (and still probably is because there are too many various
boards and not all of them have been tested). So it was reasonable
to do the same lima-memtester test on H3 hardware too:

https://github.com/ssvb/lima-memtester/releases/tag/20151207-orange-pi-pc-fel-test

http://git.denx.de/?p=u-boot.git;a=commit;h=e7d6aa0b74b7f4d08ee68da8a586c76c761348e2

While at it, I had also added a link to my 3.4 kernel branch
and some basic compilation/usage instructions at

    http://linux-sunxi.org/Orange_Pi_PC#Sunxi.2FLegacy_Kernel

with the hope that some other people may find it useful. But I have
no interest the the Allwinner's 3.4 kernel and have no plans to do
anything else with it any time soon. Still I got a pull request
some days ago:

    https://github.com/ssvb/linux-sunxi/pull/1

Which brings us to this discussion. So does anyone have any good ideas
about how to move forward? Or is anyone willing to step up as the 3.4
kernel maintainer for Allwinner H3?
