Hi, thanks for contacting the linux-sunxi community. In the subject line says Android, and this requires to explain, that. The linux-sunxi community, is basically just working with gnu/linux type OS, and Android is not much cared about. But as both (gnu/linux and android) have the same linux kernel in common, the work that linux-sunxi is doing to improve and upstream can be certainly be used by android (in the future).
Also was used the word "cedarx", which must be explained that is the name of the proprietary-binary-blobs library for the sunxi's video engine hardware. The cedarx-library has a long history of license ambiguity issues, which Allwinner has some difficulties in understanding the importance of resolving this so called "license-issues". The linux-sunxi community tried to get Allwinner collaboration, but after of a huge amount of "trouble", the best that could be achieved can be seen in this page http://linux-sunxi.org/CedarX For this reason, the use of the cedarx-library is not recommended. The good news, is that this sunxi video engine hardware, has been already reverse-engineered with successful results, as in this page tries to explain. http://linux-sunxi.org/Cedrus This means, that is not required to be dependents of this troublesome cedarx-library. But. The linux-sunxi community is currently only focused in mainline and upstream work, and there is still plenty to be done. The A13 soc happens to be the most advanced with the mainline kernel support, but the Android requirement makes this a complicated matter. If you read the Cedrus wiki page (indicated above), you will find that currently only exists a vdpau backend implementation for 3.4 kernel. And Android + vdpau not been impossible, will certainly be an aberration that probable should never be tried. But, you speak about only VLC libraries (in android), this is different and possible. Simply one could use the fact that Cedrus is a project 100% open-source and just write the support into VLC (for android). If this interest you, we can forward discuss about how this could be done. > Can anybody quote a price and time for this project? As said above, the people in the linux-sunxi community don't have much interest in Android and i myself am included. But if someone wishes to take this opportunity and the route described above (using the work of the cedrus project and not the cedarx-license-issues-library), we(the cedrus people) would be happy to collaborate to make this possible.
