I have a .tga file which I wrote using
Photoshop/Windows, which is derived from a photo CD. Having written a
program to display and manipulate the image under Linux/C, I now find myself
fiddling around with guesses as to the best gamma correction values to
use. Clearly, for example, without correction the .tga images tend to be
way too blue looking.
Assuming a typical color monitor, and assuming RGB
in 8 bits/color derived from scanning a color slide, is there some standard
accepted starting point for the RGB gamma values? That is, assuming
a "correct" set of 8 bits/color
RGB values, what are the common gamma
correction values for a typical color monitor?
