The exception is the S3 Trio 3D/2X card - this is the reply I got from
a knowledgable guy:

It does not. XFree86 3.3.4 doesn't support that card. I had the same
problem. "Solved" it by buying a RIVA128 card. Even if the next version
of XFree86 will support that chipset, it will most probably be an
alpha driver. Don't expect any Linux distribution to play well with
it any time soon.
