If you are so dependent on your RPMs, make them yourself. It really isn't
that hard. Also, if you like being dependent, take a look at debian. There
are progs for debian, (which I am sure are avail for redhat) which will
look at the tar ball and turn it into a .deb file (debian's package). It
may not be fully optimized, but it will probably work.
