Hi there,

I have Linux 2.0.35.

if I try to do a backup with my iomega ditto 800 with the commandline :

        "find . -print | cpio -ovB > /dev/qft0"

then the cpio-command prints out the following sequence between the listed

filenames (for example) :

        "cpio: .kde/share/mimelnk: truncating inode number"

and in the /var/log/messages is something like this :

        "Dec 1 21:20:07 pc1 kernel: [031] ftape-write.c (_write_segment) -
        write error, retry 1."

If the cpio command ends then it says :

        "18324 blocks"

After this backup a "ftmt -f /dev/qft0 status" says :

This is a Iomega 250, Ditto 800 floppy tape drive, (drive type = 0x8880)
drive status = 0x00000000
generic drive status = 0x01000000
(In particular: * tape online * )
sense key error = 0x00000000
residue count = 0
file number = 0
block number = 2

Knows anybody out there how I can fix this error?

Thank you very much for your answer.
