Hi,

I'm running an Exabyte Eagle TR-3 Tape drive using ftape-4.02. I have
also install the ftape-tools-4.x package. I'm using the Tape Drive with
the FC020 Fast Floppy Card that came with it. I can rewind, retension
with no problems using mt. My device is /dev/qft0.

My problem is that I am trying to reformat some QIC-Extra Tapes on the
drive that I got from the store because they are formatted with
Seagate's special formatting for 4.4GBytes. I execute the proper
commands for ftformat and it successfully goes out and calculates the
tape length and parameters, but then it exits with a message saying
Burst Writes have failed. When I try to tar to the tape drive, I get a
can't write message trying to use the special formatted tape. (Actually,
I don't seem to be able to write to any tape).

Does anybody know what I need to do to get these tapes formatting on my
Eagle TR-3? I'd appreciate any help.

I'm sorry about being so vague on the message but it is very late, and
I'm going to bed. If you request, I will put the exact commands and
resulting messages in my next message. I would really appreciate the
help as if I get this working, will let me start backing-up critical
data.

Thanks in advance,
