Up to now I can't reproduce the problem. Strange.

Do you always have the problem when trying to reformat a cartridge, or 
does it happen in other cases, too?

I'm just recompiling the thing now for my other box where I have
another tape drive.

Ok, did it. Now let's see what is happening. Using autoloading only
seems to work. Now let's load ftape and zftape manually ..

Argh. I need to install the new ftape-tools package on that machine,
too. :-)

Hey, you are right, I have the same damn large use count now.
And I didn't need to run ftformat. Just to sit and wait.

How can this be ... 

I'll let you know when I have a solution.
