Hi there,
I've got a problem with ftape-4.x-1998_12_20 (kernel 2.0.35).
Installing (together with the ISAPNP tools) went OK.
No problems there.
The system I am using it on, is a P-166 (96 Mb RAM), with an
Iomega Ditto Dash 4Mb/s internal controller, connected with a
Ditto Max Pro (10 Gb) streamer.
But the problems arised, when I started trying to use it. When
issuing: tar tvf /dev/qft0, I get the error message:
tar: Cannot open /dev/qft0: Input/output error
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now
and when executing "ftmt -f /dev/qft0 erase", I get:
ftmt: /dev/qft0: Permission denied
The same message is generated, when I try to do a tar to the tape,
although I am trying to use it as 'root'.
The log-file shows:

But as far as I know, these tapes should be pre-formatted. I
only can use my Ditto Max under Linux and not under Win95/98
(let it be under NT... that has never worked!!).
Do I have to format the tapes in order to be able to make a
backup? (b.t.w. I use 10 Gb tapes).
Does anyone have any suggestions??
Thanks a lot,
