Hello,
Just joined the list seeking assistance. In a complete blunder on my part,
I recently fragged an important hard disk. While that drive is away at Ontrack
being read to other media, I figured I'd get a data storage method. I found
that the www.linux.org site was rather unhelpful with recommending an IDE tape
storage method. I called a friend of mine who runs a Linux Users Group, and he
recommended anything IDE.. that it should be able to work.
So I've got a Sony SuperStore internal IDE tape drive. When linux boots up, you
get a bunch of nasty information, listed below:
Dec 27 02:05:20 master kernel: ide-tape: I/O error in request sense command

Does this mean that something is misconfigured? Or is this drive not going to
work for Linux? I found this drive to be the most reasonably priced,
especially for the storage capacity. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
