Jaime,

The problem that you are seeing is related to the fact that a QIC-117
based tape MUST update the header segments upon completion of a write
operation or the new data does not exist on the tape.

As for your assertion that you can only write at the beginning of tape
or at the end of data, this is correct.  This is true for ALL tape
devices under Linux (and other UNIX OS's as well).
