Cpio with ftape

I wanted to know if cpio will work with ftape. I am using ftape version
4.02 with RedHat Linux 5.2 kernel 2.0.36 with a Colorado FC20 Tape
Controller and Colorado 250 tape drive.Ftape works fine with tar on this
setup.When I try to use cpio it gives me write error:invalid argument.This
is what I enter at the command line: cpio -o -F /dev/qft0 < /backup.files.
The "backup.files" contains the list of files I want to backup.
