Hi,
at least this is a known problem and can be solved by downloading the most recent
ftape version from:
http://www.math1.rwth-aachen.de/~heine/ftape/archives/ftape-4.x/unstable/
"unstable" is no problem, in fact the most recent ftape-4.x.... can be
compiled successfully under kernel 2.2.x (I myself tried 2.2.1) and can
even be used to access at least my ditto max external.
