Hi, folks. I just purchased a Ditto Max and was planning on a really
smooth installation, but I had the exact opposite. It's not running yet,
and the best I've been able to do is make it rewind once!

I'm running kernel 2.2.3-ac1. It comes, contrary to what the ftape FAQ
and HOWTO say, with ftape 3.04b, which doesn't support my drive. Now, I
download and attempt to compile ftape-4.02, but the compile fails:

fdc-io.c: In function `fdc_interrupt_wait':
fdc-io.c:409: parse error before `long'
fdc-io.c:434: structure has no member named `timeout'
fdc-io.c:455: structure has no member named `timeout'
make[2]: *** [fdc-io.o] Error 1

I tried all kinds of hacks to try to make things work, but nothing's been
successful. (Don't worry, I know all of these are real unorthodox and
hopeless solutions ;> ) In particular I tried using the fdc-io.c and
fdc-io.h from my kernel with the ftape-4.02 source, patching a copy of
kernel 2.1.119 with the ftape-4.02 patch for it and then patching the tree
up to 2.2.3 one patchlevel at a time, hacking the source and changing
broken-looking things around, ... I still can't make it go.

One possibility is that I downgrade my kernel to 2.0.36 (or pl37 when it
comes out) and use ftape-4.02 as intended then. I have to rule that out
because I really, really don't want to downgrade my kernel. :>

I'm sure someone out there must be running a 2.2-series kernel and a Ditto
Max. Any suggestions on how to make it go?

I'd appreciate any help I can get. Thanks.
