Get mt-st-05b from any Red Hat mirror.  I recommend that you get the
source and recompile unless you're sure that the Debian glibc and the
Red Hat glibc are the same.  This latest mt-st knows about DDS, DDS-2,
and DDS-3, and reports them properly.

Oh, and it doesn't really matter what density mt reports, the drive
knows what it's doing.
